Sanias Mebendazole anthelmintic tablets

This medicine is intended for patients with worm infections caused by arthropods, roundworms, whipworms, hookworms and tapeworms.

 
Composition
Active substance:
Mebendazole

Dosage
Infections with grubs:
1 tablet and 1 tablet again after 14 days; repeat every 14 days if necessary.
 
Infections with roundworms, hookworms and whipworms:
1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening for 3 consecutive days. If after 3 weeks
complete cure has not been obtained, treatment should be repeated.
 
Infections with tapeworms:
3 tablets twice daily for 3 days.
 
Use
The tablets should be taken with plenty of water (half a glass).
To prevent a new infection after your treatment with mebendazole, all family members should be treated.
 
Suitable for children over 2 years of age.
 
Do not use in:
Do not use if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to mebendazole or any of the other ingredients in the tablet.
 
Extra caution with
Extra caution in children under 2 years of age. The use of mebendazole in children under 2 years of age is not recommended unless the benefits outweigh the risks. There are insufficient data on required dose adjustments in this age group.
 
Taking with other medicine
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken other medicines. This includes medicines you can get without a prescription.
Medicines that are known to affect mebendazole or that mebendazole may affect are:
- cimetidine (an antacid). This interaction occurs especially with long-term use of
higher than the recommended doses. At low doses, there is no interaction.
- metronidazole (agent against certain infections). The concomitant use of mebendazole and
metronidazole should be avoided.
 
Use during pregnancy and lactation:
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Pregnancy:
Mebendazole anti-worm tablets Apotex 100 mg can be used during pregnancy, but for the
first three months of pregnancy only on the advice of your doctor. The possible risks of mebendazole during pregnancy should be weighed against the expected therapeutic benefits.
Breastfeeding:
Mebendazole may occur in very small amounts in breast milk. When using
mebendazole in therapeutic doses, no undesirable effects are expected for the child. Mebendazole may be used during the period of breastfeeding.
 
Ingestion in driving and reactivity.
To the best of our knowledge, this medicinal product is unlikely to affect the ability to drive and
the ability to use machines.
 
Possible side effects.
Like all medicines, mebendazole anthelmintic tablets Apotex 100 mg may cause side effects
cause, although not everyone gets these side effects. The following side effects may occur very rarely (in fewer than 1 in 10,000 patients) when using mebendazole anthelmintic Apotex 100 mg:
Blood and lymphatic system disorders:
- Blood abnormality (deficiency of white blood cells) associated with increased susceptibility to infection (granulocytopenia). This may occur with long-term use of higher than recommended doses)
Immune system disorders:
- hypersensitivity reactions, such as anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions
- skin rash with severe itching and formation of bumps (urticaria or hives)
- Sudden fluid accumulation in the skin and mucous membranes (e.g. throat or tongue), breathing difficulties
and/or itching and rash, often as an allergic reaction (angioedema)
- severe hypersensitivity with (high) fever, red patches on the skin, joint pains and/or
eye inflammation (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)
- fever in infants ('Be extra careful with mebendazole anti-worm Apotex 100 mg')
Nervous system disorders:
- convulsions (convulsions) in infants.
Gastrointestinal disorders:
- abdominal pain and diarrhea (these symptoms may also result from the worm infection itself)
Liver and bile disorders:
- liver inflammation (hepatitis) accompanied by jaundice (yellow discoloration of the skin or eyes)
- Abnormal liver function tests (with prolonged use of higher than recommended doses)
Skin and subcutaneous skin disorders:
- skin rash (exanthema, rash).
- severe, sudden (hypersensitivity) reaction accompanied by fever and blisters on the
skin/flattening of the skin (toxic epidermal necrolysis)
- Skin rash with red, moist, irregular patches (erythema multiforme) in infants
Kidney and urinary tract disorders:
- certain form of kidney inflammation (glomerulonephritis) (with long-term use of higher than recommended doses)
 
If any of the side effects gets serious or if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet, please consult your doctor or pharmacist
 
Storage advice
Keep the medicine out of the reach and sight of children.
Store in the original container in a dry place, below 25°C.
The packaging indicates until when the tablets can be used (month and year).
On the blister packs the expiration date is indicated after the abbreviation "Exp" (= do not use after).
You can return any unused tablets to your pharmacy for destruction.
